National Volunteer Week 2025: Volunteers Make a Lasting Impact on Child Welfare in Ontario

It is National Volunteer Week – a time to recognize and thank volunteers for the time and energy they contribute to their communities. The theme this year is Volunteers Make Waves. Like a wave, volunteering is movement building.

Across Ontario, volunteers play a vital role in supporting children, youth, and families involved in the child welfare system. Every year, thousands of individuals dedicate their time, skills, and energy to provide essential support in roles such as drivers, mentors, tutors, event organizers, and board members. Their contributions add up to hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours, helping to create stronger, more connected communities.

“Volunteers are the heart of the child welfare sector,” said Solomon Owoo, CEO of OACAS. “Their dedication and generosity create meaningful moments that positively shape the lives of children, youth, and families. We deeply appreciate their commitment to making a difference.”

By forming genuine connections and offering consistent support, volunteers become key members of the teams working to ensure children and youth have the resources and encouragement they need to thrive. This National Volunteer Week, OACAS recognizes and celebrates the incredible individuals who give their time to support those in need.
