In honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2024, the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies’ (OACAS) Director of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Holistic Practices Julia Jamieson reflects on her first year in the role, the progress she has seen across the child welfare sector in that time, and the priorities ahead.
“I have had the honour of working alongside our children’s aid societies and Indigenous Child and Family Well-Being Agencies across Ontario, who have resolved to act in recognition of a shared responsibility for First Nations, Métis and Inuit children and youth in the province.”
To highlight the Ontario child welfare sector’s collective efforts towards reconciliation and to share what the day means to them, we have compiled a series of videos from member agencies across the province. You can view all of the videos in the playlist here. Hear from child welfare leaders, Elders, and youth; hear about how they plan to recognize September 30 this year; and hear about their commitments to continue towards truth and reconciliation.
“Sustainability of change requires advocacy, allies, and courage. Only then, will we be able to conceive authentic child welfare redesign.”
